April Sound began in the early 1970's as a resort and country club get-a-way for Houstonians.  It's close proximity to the 4th largest city in the country made it ideal.  It is situated on about a thousand acres of beautifully wooded hills and valleys on the south shore of Lake Conroe.  It would be hard, if not impossible to find a more idyllic setting on which to build a country club and resort.  Over the years city dwellers discovered that April Sound is really not that far of a commute (about 55 miles)  to downtown Houston.  With the explosion of growth in The Woodlands just north of Houston, many people employed there prefer lake living just twenty minutes to the north. 

April Sound is now called home by thousands of residents from all over the country (and world).  The diversity is great with retirees and  young families with children in the very highly rated Montgomery School District.  They have all found a great place to live, whether retired or raising a family or just to enjoy life to it's fullest.  

One of April Sounds most important and desirable amenities is it's Security.  A fully staffed professional security department constantly monitors the entry and exit of the community.  It is operated like any police department with a Chief (Chief Brandt) Sergeants, etc. All of the officers are certified to carry arms. Fully gated makes April Sound one of the safest communities in which to live on Lake Conroe.   24 hour around the clock  patrols make their rounds  in fully equipped modern police type cars. This  offers the highest degree of safety while they assist residents in any way they can.  Officers also note any deed restriction violations for the Property Owners Association.  A strong   Architectural Control Committee consisting of three property owners helps maintain property values.

There are many activities if you like to keep busy.  27 challenging holes of golf.  13 tennis courts, 4 covered, the rest lighted. Lots of swimming pools, a hot tub, a recently expanded fitness center.  

The  ladies association has many sub groups that cover various special interests.  I think there are over 300 members.  The Civic Association works on keeping everything beautiful and works on any project that will benefit April Sound Residents.  

Board members elections for the  Property Owners Association and the Architectural Control Committee occur every two years. Any property owner may participate.

 There are both Men's and Ladies Golf Associations.  Friday night scrambles are very popular and it's a great way for new members to get aquatinted.   

A wide variety of housing is available in April Sound.  Single family homes (golf course, lakefront, or wooded lot), Patio Homes (golf course, lakefront, interior lots), condos (lakefront, poolside).  Homes range from the low 100's to a million + dollars.   Condos from the low forties to low 100's. Several Builders have discovered April Sound in the past few years.  Some are building wonderful spec homes.  Lots are available for those who would like one of the builders to build a custom home.

Children in April Sound go to the Montgomery Independent School District schools.   Rated 4 stars out of 4 by Texas Monthly Magazine. Its low student to teacher ratio, no tolerance policy, and excellent facilities make it one of the top district's in the state.  All children are picked up by the bus and returned each day to their own block.  The new state of the art 18 million dollar Montgomery Senior High School was completed in fall 1998.

Medical facilities are nearby.  A physician staffed emergency clinic is 5 minutes away.  The Conroe Regional Medical Center is only 10 minutes away.  It is served by hundreds of health professionals from every specialty area, with dozens of clinics and private practices located in the Center.
